Your first international holiday should be easy: a short flight, a simple visa process and enough to see in four to six days. These six destinations are the ones we suggest most often to first-time travellers from Wayanad and the rest of Kerala.
Visa rules for Indians change often. We link to our visa pages, which we keep updated — always confirm the current rules with us before booking.
1. Dubai — easy first trip for families
Why: Short flights from Kerala, many families already have relatives in the UAE, and there is something for every age — desert safari, Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa, Miracle Garden (seasonal), theme parks.
Visa: Indians need a UAE visit visa arranged before travel, unless they qualify for visa on arrival through another country’s visa or residence. See our UAE visit visa page and the guide to the Dubai visit visa from Kerala.
Best time: November to March. Summer is extremely hot.
2. Thailand — beaches and value
Why: Bangkok’s shopping and temples plus the beaches of Pattaya, Phuket or Krabi. Good value for hotels and food.
Visa: See our Thailand entry page for the current rules and the online arrival card.
Best time: November to February is the most comfortable.
3. Singapore — clean, safe and easy
Why: Ideal for families with children and elders. Universal Studios, Sentosa, Gardens by the Bay, excellent public transport.
Visa: Indians need a Singapore visa before travel. See our Singapore e-visa page.
Best time: Any time of year — it is warm all year, with rain showers.
4. Malaysia — or combine it with Singapore
Why: Kuala Lumpur’s Petronas Towers, Genting Highlands and Langkawi’s islands. Easy to combine with Singapore in one trip.
Visa: See our Malaysia entry page for the current rules and the digital arrival card.

5. Sri Lanka — closest of all
Why: Very short flight, similar food and climate, tea country in Nuwara Eliya, beaches in the south and historic sites like Sigiriya and Kandy.
Visa: See our Sri Lanka ETA page for the current rules.
6. Bali — for couples
Why: Beaches, rice terraces, temples and private pool villas. A favourite for honeymoons — see our honeymoon guide.
Visa: See our Bali e-VOA page.
